Our province’s long-standing relationship with the fishery has allowed us to make significant contributions to science, research and academia.
In 2017, Ocean Choice International launched the OCI Research Chair in Stock Assessment and Sustainable Harvest Advice for Northwest Atlantic Fisheries at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland. This is a five-year investment of $500,000 that will foster knowledge and opportunities for our fishery and help ensure its success and sustainability well into the future.
As well, the industry provides more than $35,000 in scholarships for high school and post-secondary students in Newfoundland and Labrador every year.
By supporting research and knowledge-sharing, we are helping build a world-class fisheries science and research institute in Newfoundland and Labrador and fostering a modern, thriving offshore fishery.
